SecuROM

SecuROM is a security program used by Atari to deter people from copying the NWN2 discs. It adds non-standard sectors to the game discs that cannot be read by normal drives.

SecuROM interferes with some legitimate 3rd party programs and drivers. See the Troubleshooting article for details. Also consider consulting the Securom Technical FAQ.

Many game owners choose to install a No-CD Patch which allows them to play NWN2 without having to worry about SecuROM (or keep the game disc in their PC). These cracked versions are strongly opposed by Atari, and there is no guarantee that they do not contain malware. No-CD patches usually trail behind official updates by a few weeks; those who prefer them often delay installing the latest update until the No-CD version is available.
