Necromancy spells manipulate the power of death, unlife, and the life force. Spells involving undead creatures make up a large part of this school.

For a list of all spells which are of the school of Necromancy, see: Category:Necromancy spells.

Gameplay Notes[]

Necromancy is never able to be chosen as an opposition school by any wizard meaning these spells are always available to all wizards. This means there is little need to discuss the pros and cons of the entire school in case you could choose to have it as an opposition school. Necromancy's opposition school is Divination.

This school is geared heavily towards negative damage attacks and ability reduction. Since it cannot be taken as an opposition school, every mage and caster has access to all necromancy spells.

Useful spells out of the necromancy category could be the fear-inducing and ability-reducing spells, such as Fear, Ray of Enfeeblement and Enervation.

There are also many save-or-die spells, such as Finger of Death, Cloudkill and Wail of the Banshee which usually require a fortitude save to resist. These are less useful than people think.

There are also some summoning spells, such as Create Undead, which are an alternative to those who took the Abjuration, Evocation or Transmutation school as their speciality, which restricts the summoning spells from the Conjuration spell school. The undead summoned usually have a great amount of undead resistances over the summoned monsters.

There are also some general damage spells, such as Cloudkill, the Inflict range of spells and Harm, and Horrid Wilting. These usually have fortitude saves.

There are some very useful save-free spells, like Ray of Enfeeblement, Vampiric Touch. However, these spells are mostly death spells or negative spells; that is, they are totally useless when you are fighting against undead.
