Monkey Grip

From NWN2Wiki

(Redirected from Monkey grip)
Jump to: navigation, search

Type of Feat: General

Prerequisite: Base attack bonus +1

Specifics: This feat grants the ability to wield weapons that are normally two-handed for your race with only one hand at a -2 penalty to hit. For example: a human could wield a greatsword and a shield using this feat, while a halfling could wield a longsword in each hand. Medium sized characters (humans, half-orcs, elves, dwarves, etc) with this feat can use giant weapons (with -2 to hit). Note that this ability only applies to melee weapons and does not affect the use of crossbows, bows, etc.

Use: Automatic.

-It should be noted that when you equip a two-handed weapon with one hand using this feat, that the game treats it as a one handed weapon for all bonuses. You will not get double Power Attack damage, and you will not get 1.5x strength bonus, because the game considers it a one hand weapon.

These reasons cause this feat to be of dubious value for most builds.

[edit] DnD 3.5 Monkey Grip

Type: General

Prerequisites: STR 13

Benefit: You may use some weapons one size category larger than normal in exchange for a –2 penalty on attacks.

With this feat a Medium-sized character could hold a large weapon (such as a great sword) in one hand and a Small-sized character could hold a large weapon (such as a spear) with both hands or a Medium weapon (such a dwarven waraxe) in one hand. In theory this feat should also allow Medium-sized characters to hold Huge weapons, however such weapons have been confirmed not to appear in the game. This feat does not allow you to use an oversized double weapon or to wield an oversized light weapon in your off-hand.

Since this is a site about the CRPG it must be noted that in the Official Campaign and in Mask of the Betrayer (albeit, the italian version) things are different. First of all the prerequisite is not STR 13 but BAB 1 (which can be achieved also by a character with less than STR 13, when he/she reaches the appropriate level). Apart from this, this feat (providing you have the necessary weapon proficiency) allows a small-sized character to dual wield medium weapons. --Tar Ancalimon 16:02, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
