[edit] Description
All living creatures (Creatures who are not constructs or undead) apart from the caster within the area of effect take 1d6 points of magic damage per caster level, to a maximum of 20d6.
[edit] Gameplay Notes
This is a higher-level, magic-damage fireball-like spell. It fills a role, if you need it, of damaging many creatures with damage they cannot ever resist. It also never affects the caster, so can be used with impunity if the caster is the only one in range of its effects. In PvP, many players mistakenly believe that the spell uses negative energy or death magic to accomplish the effect and cast spells designed to protect them against those kinds of attacks. However, the damage is strictly magical and it is not a death spell - as evidenced by its description in the source books.
"This spell evaporates moisture from the body of each subject living creature, dealing 1d6 points of damage per caster level (maximum 20d6). This spell is especially devastating to water elementals and plant creatures, which instead take 1d8 points of damage per caster level (maximum 20d8)."
The damage is not the greatest, and it cannot be maximized due to it being level 8. It can however be empowered if one has 3 levels of Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep. It would have a fairly high fortitude-based saving throw however, meaning it can easily damage most non-fighter based creatures - including opposing mages.
[edit] NWN1 Comparison
3.5E changed the damage to d6 per caster level, down from d8 per caster level in 3.0E - which NWN1 uses.
