Bug Notes Edit

This uses the same icon as Blindness/Deafness, which might cause some confusion when selecting it from places like the quickbar or quickcast menu.

Line 52: This spell doesn't use the NWN2 ApplyMetamagicDurationMods() and ApplyMetamagicDurationTypeMods() functions.

Gameplay Notes Edit

Although it is an Illusion spell, it will actually work on enemies who are immune to mind-affecting spells/illusions (undead etc.)

The spell affects only enemies on hardcore difficulty (patch 1.23).

The spells area of effect is not too great, however, the effects of blindness and deafness with a high save DC, can make it useful against creatures with low fortitude saves - especially spellcasters like Clerics, Wizards and the like who need to see a target to specifically target them with spells. Since you can catch a few creatures together with this spell, it can be useful in some circumstances.

Against fighters, while it would be useful, the fortitude negation is usually less successful against them.

This spell is inferior to the Word of Faith spell, for the following reasons:

1) This spell applies deafness, not just blindness, which means bardic music won't work on affected targets. So Inspiration of Jarring/Curse Song will not work, saving throws decrease is wasted in this case.

2) The spell is subject to FORT save, even if you are using it on enemies with low saves, there is still a chance that an enemy will throw a roll of 20 and save themselves. This is definitely not the best spell to use on clerics, because clerics have a high FORT save progression.

3) The radius is extremely small, compared to Word of Faith (colossal).

4) As of patch 1.23, the spell affects only enemies, but earlier versions affected the caster and his allies as well, and it is very difficult to protect yourself against blindness (only Iron Body and spell mantles will grant this protection, but Iron Body is inacceptable, as it applies arcane spell failure, and spell mantles are eaten up too quickly, and thus unreliable).

The only advantage of this spell over Word of Faith is the duration, which is much longer, esp. if extended. But usually the Word of Faith duration is sufficient.

Of course, if you don't have a cleric in your party, you don't have much of a choice. Otherwise, Word of Faith is preferable.
