Bug Notes Edit

General:

This spell can be cast more then once a target, all other hand spells are not allowed to do this. It is unknown if the effects would stack however, even though it can be cast more then once on a single target.

Line 51: This spell doesn't use the NWN2 ApplyMetamagicDurationMods() and ApplyMetamagicDurationTypeMods() functions.

Gameplay Notes Edit

The only thing stopping this hand is spell resistance. Against heavy-hitting monsters or good fighter-types, this cuts down their effectiveness over a short amount of time very well. No other spell can compare to the single-target usefulness of this, although it doesn't stop attacks, the fact it has no save or roll to stop means it is as effective at level 20 as it is at level 9.

Highly recommended against encounters with a few high level monsters.

3.5E comparison Edit

The hand essentially provides cover for the caster against the target of this spell. The NWN2 version is much more powerful, and instead has a -10 to hit for all attacks done by the target of the spell.

Generally this is actually too powerful against many "boss" monsters. Why it was set to a penalty of -10, rather then a more moderate penalty like -4, or -5, or even -6, is unknown.

It is also more powerful in NWN2 due to it cannot be destroyed except by Dispel Magic - there simply is no way to attack it, which would make the spell less effective - since its AC is 20, and it would have HP equal to the caster's maximum - and also since it only provides cover for the caster, it can be attacked with no penalty - likely higher level fighters could attack it and destroy it in a single round, removing the +4 cover AC straight away.

A more moderate version would lower the attack penalty to -4, -5 or -6, with respect that the hand cannot be destroyed, and also probably have Disintegrate remove its effects if cast on an affected person.
